The Academy has developed a new elective that can be taken in the third year called ‘Destination Development Planning’. This course involves a travel component and is designed to examine a destination through the lenses of economics, marketing, culture, tourism & leisure and food & beverage. In 2011, the destination was the Burgundy region of France where the students spent six days. For the first four days the students interacted with various local people to gain knowledge about the area as well as participated in agricultural activities, then visited artisan producers and restaurants.
As part of their assessment process, students were required to keep a daily journal of writings, pictures and videos utilizing the EAHM Study Tour facebook page.
New students also went on a cultural immersion trip; The Academy organized a trip to Abu Dhabi where they visited the famous Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates. They were also treated to an extensive buffet lunch at the Shangri-La hotel after which they went to Manarat al Saadiyat to view the Emirati Expressions photographic exhibition where they were lucky enough to take part in one of the shows!
