Sally McQuart, Lecturer

Sally is a Lecturer of Business and Managerial English Communications at the Academy. She began her career as an interpreter and trade promotion coordinator for the US Embassy Foreign Commercial Service in Paris, France, a position she held for eleven years before moving to Saudi Arabia, where she taught French at the International School (SAIS-R) in Riyadh. Sally holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Creative Writing from Lesley College in Boston, Massachusetts, and a teaching certification from Rutgers University, New Jersey. She is also a certified instructor for Berlitz schools, and a licensed guide through the Department of Tourism, Commerce and Marketing of Dubai.

Course Overview:
English is the dominant language in business, yet many people are not fluent or sufficiently empowered to create flawless business documents. This one-day workshop was designed to introduce attendees to ways of stretching their imaginations in order to write more creatively, clearly, and concisely with correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, and using an appropriate style and tone.    

Target audience:
All those who need to improve their use basic written business English

Course Objectives:

To enable attendees to:

·         avoid common mistakes in grammar
·         avoid common mistakes in spelling
·         use punctuation effectively in their writing to help readers
·         improve the clarity of their writing
·         write using the appropriate style and tone
·         adjust their writing style for different readers  

Course Outline:
·         So…what is good writing?
·         Learning commonsense grammar – overcoming mythical rules
·         Getting beyond full-stops and commas
·         Getting the point across with the 4 Cs
·         Discovering the importance of style and tone
·         Understanding the value of using examples and comparisons
·         Developing a good style

Note: This workshop uses a mixture of instructor input, group discussion and individual exercises.  On the completion of the course, participants will be on their way to producing business writing that is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to act upon.  

Course Material
The course fee includes everything required for the class work including notebooks, articles, note-paper and pencils.  

Prerequisites
Attendee must have a good command of spoken English.  

Certification
Certificates will be presented upon completion of the course.  

Number of attendees
A maximum amount of 15 participants.  

Course Fee

AED 1,300 per participant

Instruction materials & refreshments are included in the course fee. Accommodation and transportation are not included in the "Course Fees".
